Arthur H. Sulzberger / TIME Cover: May 08, 1950, Art Poster by TIME Magazine
The most eagerly awaited event in the editorial cycle at TIME Magazine is always the selection of the cover. The best covers capture the zeitgeist of the week while surviving the judgment of history. As browsing this collection of TIME cover art prints shows, TIME is as good a record as any of who and what mattered over the past 80-plus years. And so when TIME captures a person, an event or a trend within its iconic red borders, the magazine is adding that extra dose of significance that no other publication can quite match. That is one reason why the original artwork for more than 800 TIME covers now resides in the National Portrait Gallery in Washington. Thanks to an amazing roster of artists, photographers and graphic designers, from TIME's earliest charcoal drawings of cover subjects to its later black-and-white photography to the more recent paintings and stunning color photography, TIME covers have always been, sometimes quite literally, works of great art. And, while the times may change, the TIME cover, with its iconic red border, has never lost its power to immediately send the signal that this person or event or idea is important to our lives, that in some way history is being made before our eyes.

Open Question: Need photos at 300 dpi, currently at 180 dpi...how do I convert?
I need to submit pictures to a magazine, and they requested that I use pictures from a camera set at high resolution, 300 dpi. I don't have photoshop or anything, only silly Microsoft Office Picture Manager, and it says my pictures are at 180 dpi.
However, can't I convert or resize the photo or something so that it is 300 dpi? Honestly, I don't understand why I have to submit the photo that particular way as I would assume a magazine publisher would have the means to resize a photo for printing purposes at 300 dpi...
Is there a way I can do this on my own? I think I just need to make the picture smaller, but I don't really know where/how to do that.
Any help would be great!
Oh yeah, the picture is 2816 x 2112 pixels, if that helps!

Resolved Question: Is it difficult for a Canadian author to break into the US market?
My only reference is when I was a musician- everyone knew how tough it can be due to the competition and protective practices of US record labels- they sign US bands that can easily work and tour in that market. But what about publishers? Are novels by Canadian or other foreign authors likely to get picked up? Should I try for publication in Canada first, and then see what happens, or find a US agent to help me approach publishers in the States? I have published a fair bit of poetry in small magazines across the US, so I already have publishing credits. I'm nearing the end of my first novel and want to start laying some publication groundwork.
Thanks for any advice!
Hi- Sorry- I know you are only trying to be helpful, but I only show my work to editors and publishers, via submission. Besides- being 'good enough to be published in the U.S.' is an invalid statement- either it's good enough overall to be published or it's not- US publishers and readers don't have a higher standard than other countries.
